I am so grateful that we have this lovely new blog to call home. Those of us here were drawn together by rascal and by notingDavid. My vision is that we continue some of the basic tenets of that beloved blog.
There are plenty of happy-talk sites out there, we don't need to duplicate that. My hope is that we can include the full human experience as we discuss all things David. My hope is that we can include the mind and spirit and body, not pushing anything away or leaving anything out. My hope is that we can be both courageous and respectful. Let the conversation continue!!
We all love David, that is taken for granted. But where would we be without Rascal and notingDavid?
The most obvious thing that Rascal has done is to provide a range of opinions and critiques of all things David. He inspired us to carefully craft our opinions and offered an open door to anyone who criticized the ideas rather than the person. Hopefully his strong and independent voice will return soon. Rascal – please know that we all think of you fondly!
But less obvious is that without Rascal, we wouldn't have a community. Under his gentle and sometimes firm leadership a group of us have slowly built up trust and e-friendships. After reading months of comments, personalities emerge and you feel like you know each other. We've shared our stories, from the sublime to the painful to the lighthearted. Hearts were opened and support generously given. Tennis balls were lobbed. It's all been whacky and wonderful and a delightful soap opera that rarely failed to entertain.
These e-friendships have in many cases progressed to attending concerts and dinners together. Close friendships are developing. The upcoming tour will find an explosion of these connections.
This community has given us the opportunity to share our talents of writing or art or videos or gathering fast-breaking news. Some among us have created gifts for the community – Caseydog's Timeline, Hello Gorgeous' All Things David, and FSteven's artwork are some examples. These gifts have been given back to the community without thought of compensation. There is so much passionate, selfless creation going on here, it is quite beautiful to witness.
Creating community was perhaps a mere byproduct of Rascal's passion for David, but it has become a precious gift that he has left us. Of course Rascal is the main player in the group and he will be sorely missed. His eloquence and wit cannot be matched here. I respect his decision to rest his site, but I can only hope that he will be refreshed and ready to return before long.
We have chosen to continue this lovely community. It will be different, and we will probably have some bumps along the way. But I am committed to help keep this little group together and to nurturing it until Rascal returns. This community has taken a long time to put together. It's not going away anytime soon.
My school community moved to a new school several years ago. Everyone was excited but anxious. I wrote a new song for the occasion that starts out, "Here are my friends, here is my school." We sang it at the old school and then we sang it at the new school. This helped to reassure the children that this new situation was going to be okay.
Silverfox's prayer was posted on the last night of notingDavid and the first night of the new temporary site. I'm sure I was not the only one who found this reassuring.
Community nurtures our soul.

It's not goodbye, only farewell :)
ReplyDeleteOr...until next time!
ReplyDelete"When we've said goodbye" doesn't sound so final when you sing it!!
ReplyDeleteAn evolution...next step on the journey...as one door closes another opens...I am so lucky to have met all of the nDers through rascal's site.
ReplyDeletebeautiful piece dfLIZ!
"here are my efriends, here is our blog",
ReplyDeletethanks dfLiz, thanks rascal....
Thank you Liz and thank you Rascal! Beautifully said.
ReplyDeletecomment above from "T" is "Freo" :-)
ReplyDeleteAwesome first blog ... nicely said.
ReplyDeleteGreat first blog, DavidfanLiz. It makes the closing of notingDavid just a little easier.
ReplyDeleteThank you DavidfanLiz - well done!
ReplyDeleteAhhh That blog is ointment and a bandaid for my soul. Is that sunshine I see on the horizon? Oh, it's simply Guitar glasses!
ReplyDeleteAbrra
Now that was very beautifully said.
ReplyDeleteAnd so it goes......on
Well done Liz, Kizzi and Marlie, What a fitting tribute to Rascal to keep this community going until Rascal returns. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyable to read Liz...thanks...a great new beginning!
ReplyDeleteWe interrupt this program for a Special Announcement (as seen on FOD):
ReplyDeleteDavid and Miley to record duet.
This is happening.
Have any of you seen this from MTV tr3s? He is so relaxed and really talkative about relationships.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlqE2yWEF_I&eurl=http://archuletafanscene.com/2009/02/15/david-archuleta-mtv-tr3s/http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlqE2yWEF_I
Thank you Liz for wrapping us in a warm fuzzy. Your work is and will be appreciated in Rascal's absence.
ReplyDeleteI can't get the MTVtr3s to sound very good with the audio.
David and Miley to record duet. < --- They have to... they need to counteract McFly...younger fans/parents of younger fans.. aren't really pleased with this...so they have to soften the blow.
ReplyDeleteHowever...this oughta be good..anyone that thinks that this duet is going to be the bomb...may be in for a big surprise... I don't see their voices as highly compatible.
Thanks, dfLIZ, it is a great community and I'm so happy to have found it.
ReplyDeleteI think it will work out (I'm not happy about it) because David will carry the song. I just hope Miley keeps her nose clean until this is done.
ReplyDeleteDawn65
ReplyDeleteI went an looked at the Grammy performance of Miley and Taylor. I hope it was nerves, because Miss Miley didn't bring it. Taylor was so relaxed and sang flawlessly. Miley seemed screechy. Louder isn't better. Reminds me of Amanda Overmyer, We know what David said, "She's scary!"
I am guessing Miley and David will have to do some upbeat pop song to cut down on the contrast displayed in talent. David will out sing her.
For the life of me I do not get how this pair up will help. Perhaphs time will tell.
Abrra
I forgot the link to the Grammy performance.

Awesome! Such a quickly crafted safety net created for all of NDers falling out of the sky! Am just returned from a trip and found the sad news. Thanks to all who are generating this new space--I hope to contribute soon. Just thanks!
ReplyDeletehighervibe: "NDers falling out of the sky!"
ReplyDeleteI love that image. We are all the sparks from the fireworks at ND. We burst up into the sky, and now we are floating gently back to the ground.
Abrra - interesting that Disney and jive are somehow pairing up here. I wonder if that is a first? It might mark the first time David sings with auto-tune (to accommodate Miley) Hee hee. Although, I'm sure they will lay down their tracks separately and probably never be in the same room recording.
ReplyDeleteMarlie7
ReplyDeleteIf they sing on that show there will be close proximity. I have never seen the show, so I am not sure what they do. Lip Sync? There is not rational reason for a duet outside that show. Yes?
Abrra
My understanding is the duet is OUTSIDE the show. That it will be a single or something.
ReplyDeleteActually, I think David could sing with Kermit the Frog and make it work. Course, we would all be listening for David's voice, not Kermit's.
ReplyDeleteAI Experience/Disney Oh my so maybe it will be (ab)used in the AI exp. Video Library.
ReplyDeleteFound this poll link:

Odd that it links to FOD , but it's not up on their site.

At last, I can post!!! Yippee!!! Hi dear nDers! Btw, I changed my name. I was formerly known as vermeer.
ReplyDeleteA big thank you to those who put this blog up so quickly and got it running at full speed!
Liz, great article. Very comforting words. Thank you!!
vermeer/jd'arc - I don't believe it. You suffered to get here. Hurrah!!!
ReplyDeleteDid anyone vote on their poll ?
ReplyDeleteDavidfanLiz- a beautifully written tribute to a special soul and to the community that he inspired. We are so very fortunate to have the opportunity to remain together as we wait for rascal’s hoped for return. It was a privilege to be so warmly welcomed into the nD community and I am equally as fortunate to be a part of this one. A heartfelt thank you to kizzi, TOfan, Marlie and everyone else who has made this all possible.
ReplyDeleteI love us! ☺
marlie- too soon for me to make crazy comments about impending duet, so I will remain silent.... don't want to start trouble on our new blog before we even establish a reputation... you see, image is important, lol.
ReplyDeleteI had the thought that there really needs to be some guy energy on this blog.
ReplyDeleteBliss,
Ronaldsf,
Kurt
lurker guys...you know who you are...
Are any of you interested in stepping up and being an occasional blogger? If we are looking for a diverse and lively group, then your voices are sorely needed!!! Think about it!
Dawn65-I did... I'm trying to see the positive like David does. :)
ReplyDeleteMTV has been showing clips of Altnoy.. yeah!
It's also at number one on AOL's most listened to this week.
This is Miley's new song and video, The Climb, not Disneyish. I was surprised, not good but not bad. It doesn't come close to David, What do you think?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.myspace.com/mileycyrus
Just listened to Miley's The Climb. Umm, David's velvet tones are going to make her sound crusty, don't you think? She sounds like she's been smoking and drinking whiskey for quite a few years - sorry, I was going to be nice, but....
ReplyDeleteWonderful blog LIZ, made me teary eyed. It's good to look forward yet remember what brought us here, together.
ReplyDeleteVermeer, yaaaay! I was worried about you finding your way.
You know I am not worried about David dueting with Miley, there are far worse singers imho. I actually sorta liked her duet with Taylor. Well in any case the lyrics were touching. I was impressed with that. I mean Miley bleats, but I think somehow David will overcome it.
He needs to keep himself in the minds of his peers, and she is one as are many of her fans. It's a win, win, for him.
Okay, I listened again and...I was mean. It isn't bad. But still, next to David's voice? They will have to find a way to highlight the differences to make it seem like they SHOULD be different. Song choice will be critical.
ReplyDeleteYay - Davidlizfan - what a beautiful post. There are so many brilliant writers from the ND community. Oh wait - I just thought of another name for the blog - The Blog formerly known as Noting David, (just kidding - to Prince-like).
ReplyDeleteJeanne D'arc - Love your name - so french.. I have to say though, Vermeer is one of my favorite artists. I became very interested in his work after reading "Girl With the Pearl Earring."
I know she doesn't come anywhere close to his talent... He is going to shine whatever they do.
ReplyDeleteThey will be airing MTV tr3s again tomorrow. I love how comfortable and at ease he is answering questions about relationships and puppy love. He also does some random singing.
MTV tr3s - TOP TRECE - Amor Teen with David Archuleta - tomorrow at 4:00pm eastern time

=)
Just watched Miley's the climb. Actually, I thought it was pretty good. The video was tasteful and the voice better than what I have heard her do in the past, which is not much. I think, like dad, she could be a good fit for country. Still, if I were a singer, I would not go up against David; she will suffer in that comparison.
ReplyDeletedavidfanLIZ
ReplyDeleteEdesertrat (via Google blogger) aka "ebonyangel". Pls ignore my prior post. Just wanted to thank davidfanLIZ for the terrific blog and for bringing us all together.
ReplyDeleteAs for the Miley duet, initially I had my fears for David's career. However, I now realize that I'm fearing things/events that haven't even occurred. I have faith that this duet will launch both of their careers in new and wonderful ways. I can't wait to hear it!
ummm...watching American Idol and there is no David there this year. Tonight things are particularly bad
ReplyDeleteGeneral musing...... Idol is not as good. This video of David in Hawaii is HAWT. He is just having a fun time and he doesn't just how hawt! Looks as though he is working some tour moves. You lucky people who are going are in for something special. The fun really gets going at :52. he does a stroll/strut. AHHHHHHHH!

Beautiful post Liz! I am trying to watch AI
ReplyDeletebut turing it off. I simply have lost interest in the show. Empty nest syndrom continues
* is that spelling correct? guess I cannot spell on this site either. I have no comment either about David/Miley, except to give kudos to her for getting a duo with him.
PS: That a-capella version of Angels is why we can talk about David until the cows come home and after they have gone to sleep.ZZZzzzzz
ReplyDeletedjfan 623post--I kind of agree w/you. Miley's not bad (in this song), but she is definitely not our David. I don't see how MC & DA can mesh in a song. David is too smooth to her rowdy screams--kind of like me trying to sing w/Pavarotti(sp). Guess we just have to wait and see. I didn't think I would like the BAB song, but I really do. His vocals are so soulful and heartwarming in it. David can work miracles w/his voice maybe this duet will be one of them.
ReplyDeleteLiz..beautiful tribute to rascal! A David & Miley duet can be a good thing, especially for Miley..her image needs a touch of Angel Dust, who better to give her a sprinkle but David?
ReplyDeleteJust stopped by to say Good night to everyone, and of course, for David...
Dear Lord, Though we are unworthy to ask,
Please take Care Of David. Watch over him, Protect him from all harm. Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path. Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give. Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him UNCONDITIONALLY as we, his Archangels do. Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being. Give him rest when he’s weary. Give him stamina to sustain his hectic pace. Give him assurance when he feels doubt. Give him joy when he feels sad. Cloak him always in your protective arms. Keep David and HIS VOICE healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.
Though we may be unworthy, we humbly pray.
Amen.
Sweet dreams! Be safe & secure in our love always! Take care. You will always be numero uno in our eyes! Thank you for all you do and for just being you!
CONTIGO SIEMPRE CON AMOR!

ReplyDeleteHey everyone, in case you haven't seen... ALTNOY needs a little nudge on VH1... please follow the link and wildcard our David.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.vh1.com/shows/series/top_20_countdown/vote.jhtml
Woot! I just learned how to make a link in my blog! Soooo much to learn haha!
ReplyDeleteI have mixed emotions about David singing with Miley. The pairing is confusing to me. Her schtick is all about flash and stage show. She seems to be quite the performer, but lacks in the voice department.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, she is very famous.
We can only hope they have a #1 hit!
Brooklyndawn, Hi!! I'm so glad I'm finally able to join everyone. This might be worth passing on: I was successful in posting today from work using Firefox but now that I'm home using Firefox, it's not working again. So I switched to Safari. So changing browsers might do the trick for anyone else who is still struggling.
ReplyDeleteJeanne d'arc - what kind of error were you getting?
ReplyDeleteNo mixed emotions here concerning the Miley duet. I wish it wasn't happening. It isn't some deep worry about a career misstep. He will do well in spite of/because of.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to listen to her voice paired with his. He deserves better. I never saw any Miley tunes on David's favorite songlists, either.
Tofan - I do believe I already have a cd that I made of just Angels cuts!
BTW, I could barely pick myself off the floor after hearing the newest Angels version. That was True David. He opened my heart again with that and stepped inside.
He resides there still.
Beautiful post, dafanLIZ--I didn't make that clear in my last msg. Watching AI8 tonight...oh my, they're in trouble! On a higher note, and because we've been interested in music marketing in our other incarnation, I mention this. During my recent flight, I listened to a podcast by a Rolling Stone writer---it's a very a thorough discussion of the evolution of music distribution channels, from tapes through Napster all the way up to iTunes. Gives some insights on how the labels and artists make their money. In audio podcasts, it's the 1/15/09 edition of NPR's "fresh air from WHYY". Have a listen if you're interested in that sort of thing.
ReplyDeleteMarlie7, I did everything right (create an account), add dD blog to my profile, then sign in (and I am signed in), but once I come to dD, it's as though my having signed in was not being recognized. After my husband suggested I try another browser, it worked. I use Firefox usually but now I know it works only if I use Safari at home, because at work, it worked with Firefox so go figure!

Liz, Kizzi, TOfan - thanks for making this happen. Great post LIZ!
Thank you for the poem, Jackryan!
ReplyDeleteI am not in favor of a Miley duet either. How about pairing him with Taylor Swift? I know that $ and selling albums is a big motivator of the Miley duet. Apparently they recorded the song yesterday in L.A.? Can't believe the tour is starting next week. I have not heard much about the McFly pairing since all the drama from last week.
I'm really excited about the solo tour. FOD has a video interview w/the bass player from the band. He says there are some changes to the musical arrangements. My fingers are crossed for a pop/jazz fusion.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the drummer mentions the rehearsals in his Myspace blog.
http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=370914334&blogID=471420480
From what I read about the drummer and keyboardist's backgrounds, reading between the lines I think that Jeff has worked with them on the local jazz scene (of he knows them previously) and that they may also be of the same religion.
ReplyDeleteI saw the interview with the bass player, too, and I got excited when he talked about what they were doing in practice, new arrangements, things we hadn't seen or hear. Exciting!!!!! 13 days and counting!
ReplyDeleteWow, rehearsing 12 or 15 hours a day! My!! Do you think that David is there with them the whole time?
ReplyDeletethanks liz....nice post.
ReplyDeleteHave any of you read Larissa's article (re: her her dinner with david? She won bid for a private dinner with david. She is a very avid fan, at the AI tour, she gave David a book where she compiled greetings from his international fans. She flew from Singapore to attend it. You can read the article at this site - http://teamarchie.com/international/
esperda, i read larissa's post yesterday. i'm touched that twice she has traveled so far to see david. i sure hope he gets to tour in singapore.
ReplyDeletere. alex the bass player for the band, did anyone else think that he sort of resembled david? something about the hair, talking with the hands, and the dimple.
freo, from alex's video, i got the impression he wasn't too familiar with david or jeff. i feel that way because he mentioned how he didn't really follow american idol but he became aware of david after seeing him on local news/radio shows.
Thanks for the info--I had not watched the video so I was just going on assumptions of his background in jazz and the jazz community in SLC.
ReplyDeleteHave you guys seen the latest post on Snarkys this morning? It's a great review from the UK by a Ruth Harrison. Great read and good publicity for his upcoming tour. She GETS him!
ReplyDelete"Each song on this self-titled album seems to be sung right from the deepest chasms of the beautiful boy’s heart."
"after listening to the album, I am completely certain that this guy is going far."
"Crush; David immediately grabs my attention as this - his lead single from the album - is quite possibly one of the most beautiful songs I have heard this year"
"have also fallen completely head over heels in love with Your Eyes Don’t Lie which oozes a suave attitude throughout the three minutes it blasts out on the office CD player. The whistling in the background and the hypnotic beat and the ‘step down’ style vocals on the chorus get my shoulders snapping and my head bobbing. As much as I love my heavy metal music, I think that David Archuleta is my new ‘guilty pleasure.’"
"Rating: 5/5 - One of the best albums I’ve heard in 2009"
Whoot!
Thanks FREO at 8:53am :)
ReplyDeleteHere is how I regard the impending David-Miley duet to make it more palatable -- at least tons of kids will be introduced to real music/talent! Something like a musical upgrade :)
On the other hand, the collaboration is a sure-fire way for David to deepen his reach with the demographics targeted by his label now. Hopefully, the parents of those kids will likewise listen/watch David so that the net being thrown will also be wider.
Now my only wish is that the song won't be a ballad, for obvious reasons haha
Bringing this over too. An email from Jeff posted by Mealah of LAF. Jeff addresses fan concerns about Miley, Nick, Disney.
ReplyDeleteSo here is an email from Jeff addressing this topic. I hope it helps some.
------
"First of all, everyone needs to relax a bit about the Miley thing. They shouldn't take it personal if they aren't Miley fans or feel he is selling out or anything else along those lines. They need to understand that David is in the formation stage of his career, and that although he has a huge public awareness for the most part, he needs to continue to look for opportunities to keep in front of people and there is no better way to stay in the minds of his younger audience than by being on Nickleodeon and Disney. The younger demographic was influential in that Miley sold out almost all of her arena concerts and Hannah Montana is definitely the most popular kid show on the planet. As a result, why not have David do something with Miley that will gain more exposure and allow him to show again what makes him stand out as an artist, as well as appeal more to the younger fanbase that will hopefully realize more and more as it matures that David is so much more than just a singer or an image, that there is a depth of emotion that they can't get from most of the other teen performers out there? There is no downside of him doing something with Miley, just like there is no downside of doing iCarly or the Build a bear song. It is all good, the more exposure he gets, the better!! On the other side, look at the Pro Bowl and how much credibility that gives him to the male sports fans who likely would have leaned more towards Cook or towards the Rock, edgier musical sound? They were able to hear David sing and pretty much own the SSB!! Now he is going on tour as an opener and will continue with the international promo tour in Asia, then the UK tour with McFly."
Interesting email from Jeff. He talks about all the controversy about Miley, but doesn't even touch McFly!!!
