Next Step - Need Your Input

I am looking at setting up a live blog session tomorrow evening, February 16th at 9 pm ET (6 pm PT) so we can blog live our thoughts about the substitute blog.

What do you think? Thumbs Up? or Thumbs Down?

We will try to keep this on the top of the Blog.

  1. I am so excited about this! Will see you tomorrow at 9 p.m. ET. Will the live blog session be some type of live chat? Thanks for all of your work on this!

  2. Yes Teresa - a live chat; I am figuring out how to do that right now. Will keep everyone posted.

  3. If people can use skype (you can download it for free), we can do a conference call or even video chat over skype. I've done it before and could help set it up.

    ReplyDelete
  4. This is a godsend. I was worried that all of the great voices at ND would be silenced. I will participate in any way that I can.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Teresa - let's check it out; I am thinking if I can embed the live chat/blog on the home page it would just be a click for people to participate. Sometimes we have download issues--lol

  6. Hi Brooklyndawn - I am going to give bloggers rights to people who want to post. I am figuring out how to do that right now. I keep you posted. I just posted a pix and you can post vid's too!!

  7. Blog TV FTW maybe? for some special events.

  8. I am a gamer. Have used skype type programs as I play in groups. It's nice but has a huge drawback in that it can become a free for all with people talking over each other. Not intentionally of course, but it has been my experience.
Still can't hurt to have a server available as a tool for friends to meet up and have a one on one or small chat room. I have used Ventrilo. the cost for the rental of server is about one dollar per user/month. You can have 10 or higher users depending on the need.

  9. Rascal just shut down the comments section on his site to put the site to rest. I feel like I am going to cry! I knew it was coming, but I feel like I am in mourning over the shutdown of his site.

  10. kizzi!!!!!!!!!!!! A live chat?... count me in.
    kudos to you for getting
    this together.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I just went to ND and saw that. My heart sank to the floor again and I could not help it but have tears in my eyes...

Got to look forward. I will learn what I can to contribute. Thanks to Kizzi and all the ones leading the efforts.

  12. I will join the live blog at 6pm.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I know, it was hard to see that on ND. I got so attached to the site and people there. Although they are fun to look at, I just can't take the 24/7 gushing sites, where fans who say anything constructively critical or voice opinions that don't fit a certain political perspective are pounded on by other fans. I am so glad that we are putting together another site.

    ReplyDelete
  14. My heart and spirit feel broken over the closing down of the notingdavid site; not only because I thoroughly enjoyed Rascal and the other posters, but because I sense a waning of devotion to David himself throughout all the fan sites. I hope I am wrong.
Bonnie Hunt told David "don't let the bad things get to your heart" and I wish she had told it to Rascal. I hope he finds it tortuous to stay away and comes back soon, even if it is once a month or so.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I was surprised Rascal shut down comments so soon. It was my daily (more than once daily) fix for all things David. I frequent the other sites - they do a wonderful job of posting vids and keeping everyone up to date on happenings. But for a sense of community - ND was it.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Peru, I think it starts at 9 p.m.

I've been so sad about ND all day. You've picked up my spirits, Kizzi, thank you! (And Freo, please no bashing other sites :) ... maybe that's one of the things we can talk about tomorrow.)

    ReplyDelete
  17. yay - ninaf - your post works - your computer skills are just right!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I don't know why I had such a hard time figuring out how to post a comment. It literally took me several hours to do it - I just got so many errors - Oh well, it's done. Count me in on the live blog tomorrow at 9:00 PM.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Live blog everyone is at 9pm ET, 6pm PT. I'll post it on the home page tomorrow and all you need to do is click; you have to sign in to comment. I am working on it now.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Tofan, I know what you mean about not bashing other sites. We can model that (not bashing other sites) through our site.

    ReplyDelete
  21. ninaf

I had a lot of trouble as well. I wanted to post so badly one time at Snarkies and I finally got the Google thing to accept my email.

WOW! It looks like the posters are starting to arrive. It was best that rascal closed when he did. Now there is an increase of posters here.

  22. I told my Chicago partner-in-crime (ha!) Joner about this site, so she hopefully will come over here at some point.

  23. I was thinking that we all could make a list of what we want on a blog - say top 3 most important things to each of us and then put in a list and make a decision about our focus.

I was wondering if anyone had ground rules for blogging besides the usual stuff?

Also, how frequently we want a new post and topics, etc.

See everyone tomorrow - holiday for me!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I asked Rascal if I could copy his Comment Policies and he told me yes. I have that list of "house rules" as happy called them.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Glad to see familiar names gathered here.
Hope we can keep the fire of our love for David burning.

    TOfan,
I agree with Freo and don't see her comment as bashing, but just a fact. Of course, I'm against bashing. Also, I'd suggest we should make it part of our code of conduct here never to tell another fan what to think or how to feel.

We can always encourage those who feel pessimistic to see differently and join in the gushing and good fun when we feel like it, but never questioning another fan's love or motivations. That's what made Rascal's home so welcoming.

I have great respect for you all.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hi happy! Now pass around that big plate of brownies!! haha

    ReplyDelete
  27. don't know if I'll ever get here again.i think i finally arrived by accident... who will be "taking notes" tomorrow, or will they be permanently recorded like these comments?
also, can I comment tonight because I had a couple of thoughts to the thoughts above and might forget them tomorrow?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Is there a way to show our avi's on here, Kizzi?

    ReplyDelete
  29. So glad I went to check Rascal's house one more time this evening and I found this site. Thank goodness.
I've never posted on ND because like so many others, I am not as elequent in expressing my thoughts as you all are. I have been a daily lurker at ND since after AI. I found ND while I was googling DA because of my ODD. I will miss Rascal very much.
I will also learn and try to contribute what I can.

It also took me forever to learn how to post just now. Finally I go tin.

I will see you guys tomorrow night!

    ReplyDelete
  30. my brownies are on my name under the contributors list...go and enjoy

    ReplyDelete
  31. happy - I think that's what Kizzi intended with this thread happy.

PS - Kizzi - is there a way to show comment numbers so we can reply to a number?

  33. if you put your avi in your profile, it will show up in your comment; I don't think they can be numbered, so we may want to go to another blog format when HG returns.

We can just use this for now to chat and make plans for our temporary blog while rascal is on hiatus

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yea, just made it over and testing to see if this makes it on.

    ReplyDelete
  35. It worked! Thanks so much for this gathering place!I get to learn new things on another site. What fun!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Just checking to see if my user name is changed. I'm new at this blogging thing.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hey everyone!
Wow..this is way cool (as David would say!).

Happy..be sure and bake some extra brownies for tomorrow night!

    ReplyDelete
  38. SF!!!!!!! yes, plenty to go around.

    ReplyDelete
  39. So nice to see everyone! I feel like I am sitting around a big table having brownies and cups of tea and chatting with friends.

    ReplyDelete
  40. THANK YOU KIZZI!!!! AND THANK YOU MARLIE...

also another name idea, although I like what we have..

    "discussingDavid"

    ReplyDelete
  41. I was thinking of a slogan that that might somehow incorporate the idea of "open minds"

I like "discussing David." I'm looking forward to brainstorming ideas

    ReplyDelete
  42. marlie929- until we can fix it we can use name and time to reference, better than nothing

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oh yeah..my favorite thing..discussing David!
And listening to David, & looking at David!

Question..do I post the Prayer? I won't be offended if the majority wants to forego that ritual on this blog..

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hi My fellow Davidians .. I'll be back later on when I get used to this idea. I just realized that Rascal shut down the comments.. and the Thinnk of Me lyrics are just too much right now.

Let me let it sink in a minute... I'll be back..

thank you all...for doing this.. I'm just a little shaken right now.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I had four names for the blog..

    David-WithoutBarriers

    DesperatelySeekingDavid

    Crushin' David

    Let'sTalkAboutDavid

    But distinguishingDavid is good too.

    ReplyDelete
  46. SF1018- It is your prayer and I love it, but I know you wrote it at rascal's so it is special to that house. Also I actually think it may belong to him. maybe you could work on another?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Sorry to change the template midstream, but I couldn't read it very well. My eyes are getting old.

    ReplyDelete
  48. marlie- can we move this thread to the top so it is more easily accessible to new arrivals?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Happy - let me see if I can figure out how to do that - if it is possible. Off to read the manual LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Happy, I don't agree that the prayer belongs to nD, since I composed it..so I will post it here tonight and we can discuss it tomorrow. I won't post it again if it poses a problem for anyone.
It was meant for David and it still is..
Good night all..Thanks Kizzi for all the work you've put in to get this blog together. You are awesome!
    For David...

Dear Lord, Though we are unworthy to ask,
Please take Care Of David. Watch over him, Protect him from all harm. Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path. Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give. Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him UNCONDITIONALLY as we, his Archangels do. Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being. Give him rest when he’s weary. Give him stamina to sustain his hectic pace. Give him assurance when he feels doubt. Give him joy when he feels sad. Cloak him always in your protective arms. Keep David and HIS VOICE healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.
Though we may be unworthy, we humbly pray.
    Amen.

Sweet dreams! Be safe & secure in our love always! Take care. You will always be numero uno in our eyes! Thank you for all you do and for just being you!
    CONTIGO SIEMPRE CON AMOR!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Okay, this post is back on the top of the blog so new people will see it first.

I like that the prayer came along with SF.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hi everyone! Gosh I missed the prayer.... but I am so "happy" to see it!

    ReplyDelete
  53. PS: I burst into tears when I saw/read "Think of me". Nice to see the familiar names. You all rock!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Woo Hoo - I see HG!!!!! Are you there?

    ReplyDelete
  55. I have a very simple vision for this site... mimic our inspiration.... notingDavid... Marlie has already changed the look to more mimic nD... we have multiple threads going because we were all practicing, but I think we should stick to the model that works and that brought us all together in the first place...if it ain't broke don't fix it... (now of course that is funny because...well...it WAS broke so here we are) ...but it wasn't really broken, now was it? it was "perfect for us"... the haters may come to us and we will have to weather that storm if it comes... don't know if it will... we are not important enough...

but the format model was just right... simple and inclusionary... the model of multiple threads with different slants/topics running at the same time gives rise to an entirely different vibe...it can create homogeneous groupings of comments which do not foster diversity of thought.. concurrent threads also offer people a place to go for their favorite stuff, which further separates people instead of bringing them together...

really think we should not change the format....post a thread topic with with a picture and a thought for discussion and we are good to go...that's JMO

(possible enhancement...maybe a side thing where vids, pix, can be posted for entertainment but no option to post comments...comments need to stay under one thread at a time)

rules and division of work is another story....

    ReplyDelete
  56. I agree happy - for the first few days I think that we will have these few practice threads. But I loved knowing just where to go to read the next comment, and to have one thread going at a time.

    ReplyDelete
  57. SF.. thanks for bringing your prayer over, amen! I can't say how great it is to see you all here, what a rough weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  58. There is a gadget I can set up for those vids, pix and links to go without comment - more a reference tool rather than any commentary.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Happy: I so agree with what you said. I rarely posted comments on the other fan sites I visited. I did not feel that I had much to add and it seemed like there was not really a discussion as much as a lot of people talking at the same time. In addition the funny and intelligent writing of the folks at ND reminded me of something like a book club. Rascal always had a good topic to start the discussion. Well I am signing off. Tomorrow nite, as much as I would love to participate in the live blog- I am not sure- as my son has a baseball game. I may be able to get him a ride home- will see. Good night...Hope the others make it over here also.

    ReplyDelete
  60. btw- correction to possible enhancements..

(possible enhancement...maybe a side thing where vids, pix, AND POETRY, LOL! can be posted for entertainment but no option to post comments...comments need to stay under one thread at a time)

    ReplyDelete
  61. Happy, I agree--I like the idea of having a single thread with perhaps an author posting a head topic every few days or so. I think that the multiple threads could get confusing and not bring everyone together as much for a discussion. Perhaps we could set up a schedule for the authors to contribute (like each author contributes a few times a month or something like that).

What you think of this: Rascal was getting hate mail sent to him through the contact e-mail link on his site. Should we have an e-mail link on our site? If we don't, it would force haters to say what they need to say to everyone, instead of attacking one poster through private e-mails. I have even gotten nasty e-mails from a comment that I made on youtube comparing David to Obama in some ways.

Did you all see that profile pic of David on the float in his purplish shirt, black shirt, and signing a picture of something? It has to be one of favorite pics of David! I just saved it on my desktop.

    ReplyDelete
  62. very much saw it freo and very much liked it....

    ReplyDelete
  63. I'm gonna love this new site I can just tell. Thanks SF for your prayer--it's beginning to feel like home already.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Freo - I really like your ideas about this site. Rotating authors, all that.

From the closeups of David today his shirt seemed like a tiny check or herringbone - purple and white. Very cool!

    ReplyDelete
  65. are we in such a good mood already that we can comment on his clothes?

    ReplyDelete
  66. marlie- nice job on the side video bar

    ReplyDelete
  67. happy - we can ALWAYS comment on his clothes!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Kizzi, HG, SF, and others, It feels good to see the familiar names here. You should all be commended for your willingness and talents to keep the spirit of NotingDavid alive. Consider this fellow blogger and not so techno-savvy girl at your disposal. I can at least be your champion cheerleader! Ha! Ha!

    ReplyDelete
  69. I should be calling it a night, but very much appreciate this new site and so happy to see so many familiar names. I've decided to lie low on other sites for now. Good night everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Aghhh...the prayer...all is right in the world.
Thanks for setting up the new site!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Whoops, that "T" should be "Freo!" I realized that if I am logged into a different gmail account, it changes my username.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Finally signing out. New site-new name. I like discussingDavid or distinguishingDavid.

    ReplyDelete
  73. good night all. thanks for the fun.

    ReplyDelete
  74. David looks good in purple (but then what doesn't he look good in?). I can't help but adore his hair. Do ya think he ever has a bad hair day? I loved how he kept fiddling with it after he took off his mouse ears at the AI thing in Florida.

I can't be here for the chat tomorrow night (have to work) so just be sure and post EVERYTHING that is decided on.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Tawna
Funny you should bring up hair. The Life Story mag about David shows him with bad hair. The shots they used for the major articles were from a photo shoot. The stylist either combed it all wrong or he got a real bad haircut. It's been bugging me that they made that whole book and used shots that make him look like he has a cowlick in front.
His hair is so gorgeous. When I saw him up close in the sunlight, I was stunned how true black the color is. God did good when he made David.

  76. It worked! I've been a long time lurker and had recently decided to jump in with a few posts and now ND is gone... Thank you for creating this place so quickly, I was starting to hyperventilate...

Since acquiring ODD it was the place I found where I realized there's nothing wrong with me, I don't need therapy, everyone here loves David and I've decided if this ODD brings joy to my life I just accept it even if I don't understand it.

Is it ok to post links or info all things David?

I am so glad to see the prayer... I hope it continues...it's for David.

  78. I went to Noting David this evening to write a little note to Rascal but the comments were already shut down. It almost feels like someone died! :-( I recently joined back in December so I'm technically a newbie but felt so much at home so fast. Must be the company! Lately I've been going back into the archives to old blogs from during AI7 to see all that I missed and I see that I missed a lot!

For all of the insight that Rascal has so selflessly given us, I wish him all the best and hope that he does not disappear on us. His take on everything David was an inspiration to us all.

That said, please count me in on this new blog. I've gotten so attached to so many of you and am glad to see everyone sticking together in building our new home. Thank you Kizzi, Happy, HG, Silverfox, Marlie, Freo and TOfan and others for taking charge and keeping our family together.

I'm going to NJ tomorrow to visit my MIL but am planning to make a stop at The Starland Ballroom in Sayreville (got my tickets last week!!!!) so that we don't get lost on the night of the show...just ten days away now!!! Hope to make it back in time to join you in chat.

SF....Thanks for bringing your comforting prayer for David with you. It seems to fit wherever you go. xoxo

  79. ohmigosh, I've only trying to post for about 1 1/2 hours. Hurray!!!!

  81. Thank you Kizzi for getting this together. I am sooooo happy that we can continue on as a community. I have a strong feeling that rascal will reappear, but this will be good for now. I love you all.

I'll check back tomorrow and will try to be part of the live blog.

  82. I was a long time lurker on ND and went back tonight to read the comments and it was closed. Even though I never posted, I felt like a friend had moved away.

    Thanks, Kizzi, for starting this.

  83. Hi everyone, old time lurker in ND but has been posting in Snarkies and IDF. Do not have the guts to comment in ND and when I am ready, dear Rascal called it quits ( I do hope just temporarily). Just a 48 year old fan from Sydney, Australia. Problem with time but will try to contribute in my own small ways.

It is now 8:52 pm Monday, February 16 here in Sydney.

  84. Hello, Vee! Has David's album been released in Australia?

    ReplyDelete
  85. I don't know...this may be the turning of a tide...but I do know that...THANK THE HEAVENS YOU COULD DO THIS FOR US AND FOR DAVID...and that you have such ease with the computer...I have only watched my web master do all of the work...

    ReplyDelete
  86. Good Morning All !!

Now that I'm starting to shed away the trauma induced silence... I actually HAVE an idea.

We're always loading videos... and especially on youtube ... when there's a magic moment (i.e Tulsa Angels at the 3:00 minute mark) .. gave me the idea of a blog sub thread of Pinpointing Magic.. to upload a video... and let everyone define and discuss that Magic moment.. that takes your breath away.

This is just a thought, but I know when I see a marker on a video..it makes me excited that this type of moment is coming, and I'm giddy with anticipation. (This applies with Interview Moments, and Candid David Musings as well)

    ReplyDelete
  87. Dawn65, love that idea. I might be late logging into the chat tonight but ditto to Happy's suggestions above. (Marlie7, great layout!)

Hi to Vee and ByDesign & other former lurkers. So cool.

And Valbraz & Freo, sorry, I know you were just expressing your take on things ... was just so sad about all the bad feelings over the weekend. Truce!

    ReplyDelete
  88. No problem, Tofan. I think you are right to be careful about talking about other sites. I think we can model that through our own site.

    ReplyDelete
  89. On the picture of the day...Well, that is David pulling out all the stops...I used to play the pipe organ in the orchestra pit at convocation hall at our university...and pulling out all the stops made huge fantastic sounds that filled the hall above the balconys to the rafters and that is what David does when he is singing like that...and I so love it when he does...

    ReplyDelete
  90. I don't know how all of you have done this with emphasis on Kizi and any other contributors but you have...Never (this is for men)...under estimate the power of a woman...

    ReplyDelete
  91. Sorry about the spelling it is ...Kizzi...I am rattled and rushing this Monday morning combined with the news of the ND happenings...

    See you tonight...

    ReplyDelete
  92. Some thinking out loud:

I could see a main thread posted and kept at the top of the blog - called "Discussion" or "Commentary" until it reached a certain number of posts; then a new one would be posted.

We could then have topics posted, vids, pictures below that as they occur for reading and/or viewing but keep the commentary on one thread. I am thinking we won't with any frequency have the type of post like rascal created. This would allow us to post updates and blogs and all the comments stay in one place.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Sounds good, Kizzi. I liked how discussions changed direction sometimes within each thread depending on new developments in the ArchuUniverse.

But then if something really big caught Rascal's attention (or if the thread got too long) there would be a new post. (also just thinking out loud!)

    ReplyDelete
  94. Freo,

Up there somewhere. I saw that pic too. I think he's getting better looking, which is so unfair of him. Someone should talk to him about this.

    ReplyDelete
  95. kizzi, thanks for all your work.......commentary all in one place sounds good to me... I am easily confused, lol.
And the pic, hunkerdown...SB, love the organ comparison, David with no stops in 11 days,

    ReplyDelete
  96. If only the top thread had comments turned on, the method you described, kizzi, could work. The method of keeping a thread on top that I've found is by changing the date and time on it to the most recent. I wonder if there's a way to "pin" a thread to the top without doing that. (Marlie runs off to read the manual).

    ReplyDelete
  97. Dawn65 - I love your idea! One of my favorite things to do. There is at least one point of magic in each performance.

    ReplyDelete
  98. OMG, I went to find a way to pin comments and ended up creating a new banner. I not only have ODD, I had ADD!

    ReplyDelete
  99. Good morning here in Sydney (8:14 am).But it is afternoon there so I will just say "Good day" to everyone in Archuland.

Thanks Tofan for the welcome. Freo, the cd is now here in Sydney , being sold in ITUNES AND MUSIC STORES. Crush is now being played frequently on my favourite station 96.1 Fm. But not as popular in US and other countries. Been in some top 15 top songs, reached up to No 2.

Nice to be part of this group.

    ReplyDelete
  100. So happy you've all started this so quickly. I was mostly a lurker, an occasional poster at ND and was very sad to see Rascal shut it down. But, although he was an amazingly eloquent and brilliant leader, the site was not just about him, it was also all about you frequent posters... you're an amazing group and I am sure I will be just as enamored of this new site as I was of ND. Thanks for setting this up, and I look forward to reading more (and maybe contributing every once in a while) of your fun, intelligent and thoughtful commentary!
